What exactly is Galentine’s Day? Well, it’s the unofficial holiday that takes place on February 13th, the day before Valentine’s Day. It was created by the Parks and Rec character Leslie Knope, played by the very funny Amy Poehler back in 2010. It’s a day about “ladies celebrating ladies”! We think it’s a holiday worth celebrating!

Galentine’s Day, whether you’re married or single, is about showing your friends how much they mean to you in your life. I know that the women in my life have always uplifted me and their friendship is one of my greatest sources of happiness (and laughs!).

Here are some fun (and easy) ways to show the women in your life how much you appreciate them.

Plan a night out

Many restaurants have embraced this unofficial holiday and offer some fun specials. Galentine’s Day is on a Thursday this year, so plan your night and be sure to make a reservation. Extra points for fun if they have a trivia or karaoke night! Maybe pick a color-coded dress theme. Don’t forget to take photos!

Have your girl gang over

Invite your friends over for a casual evening of drinking wine and watching a favorite movie. Put together a spread of cute pink and red treats!

Plan a Secret Cupid gift exchange - basically Secret Santa for Galentine’s Day. Set a budget and pick names out of a hat beforehand - then everyone shows up with a cutely wrapped gift.

A game night would be fun as well. Nothing complicated - Charades is always a crowd pleaser. How about a portrait painting party - each guest would go home with a painting!

Make hand-crafted gifts

In the Parks and Rec Galentine’s Day episode, Leslie Snopes writes essays for everyone about what makes each woman special. What a great idea! It doesn’t have to be long, but a hand-written card to each of your crew would be so special. You can even order a set of cards with some of Leslie’s prolific Galentine’s Day quotes!

Are you a crafter? Some sort of personalized gift is always a warmly received present. If you have a Cricut, the possibilities are endless - keychains, travel mugs, makeup pouches, etc. Etsy has amazing digital files that can be downloaded and customized.

Bake some delicious treats and hand-deliver them to your galentines. A loaf of bread or some cute conversation heart cupcakes is a great way to say Happy Galentine’s Day!

In the end, the point of Galentine’s Day is simply to make sure that the girl friends in your life know how important they are to you. In the words of Leslie Knope “What's Galentine's Day? Oh, it's only the best day of the year."
