Gin & Tonic
The simple, yet complex Gin & Tonic
I would argue that there are cocktails, like a vodka or tequila soda, that don’t require top shelf ingredients to still be tasty. But if you’re going to make a GT, then taste matters! I am a recent convert to this drink; gin scarred me years ago, but we are friends again.
It is a perfect balance of crisp, citrusy and botanical that sips well year round. But some swear by switching it up for winter by adding a splash of orange juice and a dash of allspice and a few whole cloves.
Here’s my go to recipe:
Hendrick’s gin
Fever Tree tonic water (they make several varieties; but i’ve recently started using the Indian one and really like it)
Cucumber slices
Lemon wedge
And a few peppercorns (not ground)
Fill a rocks glass with ice, add cucumber slices, lemon wedge and peppercorns,
Pour in gin and tonic water (use a 1:3 ratio of gin to tonic), stir and enjoy!
