Scarves: Tie One On

Scarves are everywhere and we think they’re a great way to show off your personal style, but they can be tricky when it comes to wearing one.  How to tie them, which fabric, skinny or voluminous and the list goes on.  Have no fear, we’ve got you covered.

First, pick your style:

The silky - We are going to focus mainly on this style because we really love its versatility.  You can use one to dress up a simple outfit, you can wear one as a belt, or to tie on a bag or around your wrist.  These often come in different sizes to match how you want to wear one - large square (36 or 53”), smaller square (19” - think folding like a bandana) or ribbon skinny (probably the easiest to work with).

The long and cozy - Thank you Lenny Kravitz;) But seriously nothing beats a super cozy, fluffy scarf.  It’s a great way to add warmth to a fall outfit on a crisp, cool day.  The question is how far do you want to follow the trend.  Newer versions like these are very furry and very long.  This is typically where we say, “not every trend must be followed, but rather interpreted”.

Now on to styling your scarf:

Tying a scarf properly is key to getting that effortless look. Once you watch a few videos, you will learn the best ways to fold, wrap, or tie a scarf like a pro. We love Jamie Beck for her “foulard” tying tutorials and her gorgeous French lifestyle.  This creator also has very cool scarf styling tricks; I love the ones that incorporate a strand of pearls.  And, of course, Hermes has all sorts of dreamy scarf styling content.

O’So pro tip:

If you have some beautiful scarves that you don’t wear or you find one you really love, frame it and voila, instant wall decor.  I recently started buying a new scarf when I travel as a memento. I try to find one with colors or patterns that remind me of the place.  My gallery wall is growing!
