This “Trend” is a Fresh Catch
Have you been following the Cottage Core, Coastal Grandma turned Fisherman Core trend? Of all the recycled trends we’ve witnessed, this is one we are hooked on. It’s a laid-back, nautical-inspired style that screams timeless, comfort and classic.
Unlike revivals of other trends (the recent bubble skirt:), this is a reminder that your wardrobe should always include these timeless, functional basics and then you can alter the look by switching out accessories. We are not suggesting you go buy the fish shaped bag or even the bright yellow rain slicker, but lean into the feel of natural fabrics, simple designs and soothing colors.
Why We Love It:
This look is more about a lifestyle that focuses on quality and sustainability. Sure there are plenty of fast fashion retailers selling this aesthetic, but we think you should view these pieces as long-lasting investments. Look for well-crafted, natural fibers that stand the test of time.
How to Achieve the Look:
Layers - lightweight t shirts, chunky cardigans, wide legged trousers, vests, slouchy socks
Textures - use textures like cable knits, canvas, oilcloth, and denim
Stripes and Plaids - are a must, but don't limit yourself to just “the shirt”
Outerwear - rain jackets, pea coats, chore jackets and anything with a toggle
Accessories - beanies, bucket hats, woven totes, braided leather belts, bucket bags
Shoes - wellies, lug sole clogs, boat shoes, chunky fisherman sandals
Colors - blue, green, charcoal, earthy brown, cream, olive, mustard, and rust
Inspiration:
New England fishermen
Colors of the sea and coastal landscapes
Diane Keaton (especially in Something’s Gotta Give)
Scandinavian minimalism
You - chances are you have a closet full of these items just waiting to set sail
