To Belt or Not to Belt?

If you asked me that a few months ago, I definitely would have said “not to belt!”.  But, after a couple interventions from some loved ones and a recent color and body type analysis (we’ll share that process another time, but yes, everyone should get this done), I am slowly changing my tune.

While I consider myself a fashion girlie, I haven’t always chosen clothes that are true to my shape.  I often did the exact opposite of what I would encourage someone else to do: I wore things that were too big and covered my curves (I mean I gasped when the analysis stated I am a true hourglass).  Now I am trying to figure out how to strike a better balance, but it’s going to take some serious rewiring!

Hey, I grew up in the 80’s and I was not afraid to layer on three shirts under a sweater or wear a huge sweatshirt over baggy jeans.  Was it fashion or armour?  Probably a bit of both, but I digress and will save that for my therapist;)

Back to belts!  I have probably owned three in my life and one was elastic and came with my gauchos (IYKYK), the other was made with grosgrain ribbon and the last was braided leather.  Check out this updated version that confirms what comes around goes around.

I always preferred shoes and bags as my signature accessories, but suddenly belts are entering the chat.  They can be simple and add a finishing touch or they can be bold and give an outfit a boost.

And I am now the proud owner of these two beautiful belts, both acquired last month and they have been acting as the main character in my outfits lately.  I wear a lot of basics; denim, button downs, blazers and these belts are sweeping in and making my looks a lot more polished.  Rather than wearing my shirt untucked or even doing the partial tuck, I am now displaying my newly adorned waist.

To those who are reading this and laughing, I know you have been telling me this forever..  And I really have to apologize to my friend who asked me to help her clean out her closet years back.  I made her donate ALL of her belts because I saw no purpose for them (in fairness they did need to be refreshed).  So, in case she or you are on the hunt for some new belts, I have rounded up some of the best I’ve seen while I’ve been on the hunt.
