Wellness Gadgets We Love
Are you ready to take your beauty routine to the next level? A deeper level? Skincare devices - or gadgets as we like to call them - are a perfect way to do it. When added to your everyday regimen, these beauty gadgets can help in plumping, firming, tightening, detoxifying and smoothing your skin, all from the comfort of your own home! Here are some of our tried-and-true favorites to help you achieve your best self from your face to your toes:
(Please note: Like anything else, you have to commit to using these gadgets regularly to see the benefits. Once you start to see results, it definitely gets easier to remember to use them. Happy beautifying!)
This “little sister” to the red light mask, the Solawave Wand is a compact “magic” wand that combines red light therapy (smoothes fine lines), galvanic current (boosts product absorption), facial massage (depuffs) and therapeutic warmth (helps diminish dark circles).
I like to use it in the evening for a relaxing treatment. After washing my face, I apply the serum and then, always with upward and outward movements, glide the wand along my cheeks, jaw, neck, forehead and under my eyes for about 12 minutes (the device automatically shuts off at that point). Aside from the fact that it feels amazing (like put you to sleep amazing), I’ve noticed an overall glow to my skin after only a week or so of using it everyday. It’s been about six months and I swear I’m less puffy and my fine lines have been reduced. Highly recommend it!
After having a facial that incorporated microcurrent therapy and immediately seeing results, my beauty hunter self knew I had to get one of these devices for my in-home “spa”. I haven’t been disappointed.
Especially good for before an event or special occasion, the NuFace is a low-level electrical current that sends soft waves through the skin and down to the facial muscles. After applying the conducting serum (again, I bought the starter kit that included this), I use it for 5-10 minutes 5 days a week and concentrate on my cheek and neck areas, as well as my forehead above my brows. I definitely have noticed a “lift” in my face and jawline.
O’So Pro Tip:
The first time I used it, being the “more is more” kinda gal that I am, I exceeded the 5-10 minute limit and definitely felt a little like I had gotten a sunburn; so, don’t do that.
By now, most of us have heard about the benefits of an infrared sauna: detoxing, mood boosting, relaxing, skin glowing and meant to get the blood flowing. I decided that I was ready to incorporate this into my wellness routine, but wanted something convenient and that didn’t take up a lot of space.
After researching the options and reading reviews, I bought the HigherDose sauna blanket and have been very happy with the results.
While I suppose I can’t confirm it is doing all of the above mentioned things, I can say that I get a deep sweat which leads to a very relaxed state, less muscle soreness and better sleep, which all have to play a role in our general wellbeing, right?!
At $699, this is definitely an investment, but if you have been paying to go use a sauna regularly ($25-40 a visit), you will find that the cost per use makes sense.
Not all beauty gadgets need to be high tech. In fact, using mouth tape at bedtime has been one of my favorite beauty/wellness finds in a long time. I thought it would feel claustrophobic but you don’t even know that you are wearing it. It just becomes part of your normal nighttime ritual.
Mouth tape serves a couple of purposes. By not allowing mouth breathing while you sleep, you get a more deep and restful sleep. I wake up more refreshed and ready-to-go for the day. It also helps with snoring and bad breath (for real!).
The other big benefit is the gentle lift that the tape gives enhances circulation, promotes skin regeneration, smooths the mouth area and helps with a saggy jawline.
My particular favorite is from The Skinny Confidential. It’s pink and shaped like lips! There’s zero irritation and it has a hole that allows you to sip through a straw if you get thirsty in the middle of the night. Sounds crazy but don’t knock it ‘til you try it!
At $395, this falls into the investment piece category, but when something really works, we like to use the cost per use equation. It is recommended that you use this mask 3-5 times a week for 10 minutes for best results. My facialist highly endorsed this product to help combat the redness in my skin. She also confirmed that there are differences in the quality of light therapy devices, so the far less expensive ones more than likely don’t deliver the same results. When I am good and stick to the routine (this is key!), I for sure see a difference. My skin looks clearer and less inflamed.
So, for the ultimate relaxation light therapy treatment, I hop in my sauna bag, put this on my face and throw on a podcast or meditation. With or without the sauna, we can all benefit from sitting for 10 minutes!
This may not seem like the obvious choice for a beauty gadget, but I have learned that my skin is absolutely a reflection of what I am eating (or drinking;). So, I use my Nutribullet everyday to make a power packed smoothie with all the good stuff. I include chlorella tablets, protein powder , creatine monohydrate, and a super seeds blend plus a combination of fruits and vegetables, yogurt or cottage cheese.
